Software Research in Baden-Württemberg
Baden-Württemberg is a vital location for software research. We invite you to inform yourself about our research environment or read some examples of current bright ideas from the region's software research. more |
IT's in the Genes
Over the last few years, improved experimental techniques have produced vast amounts of data concerning biological systems and processes. This has been the general basis for identifying individual genes. A new holistic approach to system biology aims to gain an understanding of the interplay between genes: The quest is to find out how genes work in a regulated network, how they interact, and how they act to control each other. At the Centre for Bioinformatics in Tuebingen, new software that can simulate and reconstruct genetic networks has been developed as an aid to research. more |

Showing Robots the Way
A research team at the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) brings humanoid robots to life. The research team developed the VAMOS software platform, which is capable of processing and interpreting a veritable flood of data, while handling all information in almost real time. This is highly useful in all areas of industry which rely on real-time data collection, e.g. for production control systems or in mechanical engineering. more |

Evolutionary Algorithms
Anybody planning a trip through Germany that visits 20 cities by the shortest possible route is facing a true optimisation task. Developed by the research team headed by Felix Streichert, Holger Ulmer and Professor Dr. Andreas Zell from Tuebingen, the program JavaEvA is aimed at solving optimization problems with evolutionary algorithms. This software tool presents a large number of efficient optimization algorithms, which can be used to solve not only problems faced by travelling salesmen but in innumerable other areas, too. more |
Your Guide to Botany
What should you keep an eye out for when wandering through a park or shopping centre? It depends on where you are. Rui Zhou is using wireless networks to locate visitors and supply site-relevant information. more |
